As the January 10 deadline for the spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) approaches, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is reportedly overwhelmed with paperwork.
Despite the looming deadline, BlackRock, an asset management firm applying to approve a Bitcoin ETF, said it had not heard from the US regulator.
The SEC faces increasing workload as the decision on Bitcoin ETFs approaches
According to a recent report from Fox Business's Charles Gasparino, BlackRock has not received any notice from the US regulator. This suggests that there is still significant work to be done before a decision can be made in a few days.
“People at BlackRock say there is radio silence from the SEC, Eleanor Terrett's sources say the announcement will likely come toward the end of the week because of the amount of paperwork the SEC still needs to complete.”
Terrett further notes that potential Bitcoin ETF approvals could face challenges in the next few days due to the New Year holiday and free time for US SEC officials.
“The SEC staff has been off since Friday, so approval on Tuesday or even Wednesday appears to be in short supply. But we’ll see,” Terrett said.
At the time of publication, the price of Bitcoin is $44,324.

The anticipation for the upcoming Bitcoin ETF decision is increasing
Terrett explains that she doubts that the decision to approve Bitcoin ETFs will come tomorrow.
“From what I understand from conversations with issuers, the SEC still needs to review AND comment on any changes made to the S-1s filed on Thursday/Friday.”
BeInCrypto recently reported that the January 10 deadline is significant.
With over ten Bitcoin ETF applications filed, including those from industry giants like Fidelity and Invesco, the SEC's decision will have far-reaching implications.
The possible approval of these applications by the SEC will impact individual investors and set a precedent for future crypto-related financial products.
This move is an important step towards wider Bitcoin adoption. Additionally, there is significant development in mainstream financial markets.
