Bitcoin (BTC) price rose more than 6% on the first day of the new year as the leading cryptocurrency broke $45,000 for the first time since early April 2022.
As in recent weeks, the expectation that the US Securities and Exchange Commission will give the green light to the launch of a number of spot Bitcoin ETFs appears to be the catalyst for the increase. A Reuters report over the weekend said the regulator could begin notifying ETF sponsors of the approval of their applications as early as Tuesday.
In last trading, the price of BTC was $45,135, up 6.35% and up 5.6% in the last 24 hours. The broader crypto markets are also trending higher, with Ether (ETH) up 4% and Solana (SOL) and Avalanche (AVAX) up 9%.
