#Roommates, if you are a fan of the hit CW series “Black Lightning” you will definitely not be happy with the latest news regarding the show. It has just been announced that the upcoming fourth season of the show will officially be the last – the CW recently confirmed the news after giving the green light to a spin-off series earlier this month.
@Deadline reports that after three successful and critically acclaimed seasons, the upcoming fourth season of CW’s “Black Lightning” will officially be the end of the road. The all-black superhero drama will air its fourth and final season in early 2021. The surprising announcement follows the latest announcement by the CW that a planned spin-off of “Black Lightning” with the title “Painkiller” is in the works for a premiere in autumn 2021.
Black Lightning executive producer and showrunner Salim Akil spoke about the end of the show:
“When we embarked on the Black Lightning journey, I knew Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful black women would be a unique addition to the superhero genre. The love that Blerds and all comic fans around the world have shown over the past three seasons has proven what we imagined: Blacks want to see themselves in all their complexity.
Many thanks to the phenomenal cast, writers and crew, without whom none of this would have been possible. I’m incredibly proud of the work we were able to do and the moments we were able to create bringing DC’s first African American family of superheroes to life for culture. While season four may be the end of a journey, I am excited to start a new chapter and continue working with The CW as we tell the story of ‘Painkiller’. “
“Black Lightning” originally aired on FOX before moving to the CW and laying the foundation stone as the first DC superhero series with a black lead, with Cress Williams in the title role.
