The Williamsport Area School District is offering free breakfast and lunch to all students in the 2022-23 school year.
According to a press release, this is made possible through the district’s participation in the Community Eligibility Provision Program.
The program is administered by the US Department of Agriculture.
Families of students enrolled in and attending the district schools are not required to pay a fee or apply for board. However, households are asked to fill in a “Household Income Survey”.
“Getting free meals doesn’t depend on families returning the survey,” says Wand Erb, business economist. “But collecting these survey results will be important because funding to support this program is based on documented needs.”
Complimentary meals include lean proteins, healthy whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables.
A la carte items, add-ons and snacks will continue to be available for purchase, according to the press release.
Families will receive information about the program when students return to school on August 29.
