Tottenham have completed the signing of right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting CP, the club announced on Tuesday ahead of the January transfer deadline.

Porro is on loan to Spurs until the end of the season, with a commitment to making the deal permanent in the summer.

The Spain international has been Spurs’ main target in this window, with talks with Sporting raging for most of the month. He will become their second signing in January after winger Arnaut Danjuma went on loan.

Porro, 23, joined Sporting on loan from Manchester City in 2020 before signing permanently for the club in 2022.

He made 98 appearances for Sporting, most recently in a 2-0 defeat in the Portuguese League Cup final against Porto on Saturday, when he waved goodbye to fans afterwards.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte has his sights set on a new right-back, with Matt Doherty’s contract with the club being mutually terminated on Tuesday to allow him to join Atletico Madrid.

Porro will now compete with Emerson Royal for the role.

Sporting previously announced the signing of Hector Bellerin from Barcelona as Porro’s replacement.
