Sports and Community Development Secretary Shamfa Cudjoe distributed nearly $1 million to recipients of the Department’s National Rewards and Incentive, Elite Athlete Assistance Program (EAAP) and Community Action for Revival Empowerment (CARE) grants.
A total of $985,414 was paid out to 11 recipients.
These included athletes such as Commonwealth Games medalists Jereem Richards and Machel Cedenio, and Olympic long jumper Tyra Gittens.
Organizations Color Splash TT Foundation, Five Rivers Community Council, Fun With Aunty Tova and Golden Eagle Group, Garden Jewelz Foundation, Golden Eagle Group, Innovators of Tomorrow, Olympia Gymnastics Club and the Soul Oasis Cultural Ambassadors also received financial support.
Cudjoe said: “I want to congratulate you all on your work. We are pleased to be able to provide the support needed to these hard working community groups who are very passionate about community development.
“To the athletes: what you do, how you do it, the posture, the way you carry yourself, you never disappoint. On the winning side or on the losing side, you still emerge as a winner just by the way you carry yourself.
“They show the rest of the world what TT has to offer, our resilience, strength and endurance. Thank you for your service to TT.”
Lionel Sampson, Supervisor II of the department’s Department of Community Development, was also present to present checks.
