Evangelos Marinakis owns Nottingham Forest and Greek club Olympiakos
Nottingham Forest have sacked two of the staff who were heavily involved in summer recruitment which saw 22 players join the club.
Recruitment chief George Syrianos and Andy Scott, the chief scout, have both left the City Ground.
Their departures follow the arrival of Filippo Giraldi as sporting director last week – but it’s understood owner Evangelos Marinakis was part of the decisions.
Forest spent £145million after ending a 23-year absence from the Premier League.
As a result of the departure of uncontracted and loaned players – in addition to the quality boost required for the top flight – Forest required a significant influx of players following their rise as Championship play-off winners.
However, with the second to last club in the Premier League, the quality of the arrivals is being called into question.
Forest have five points from nine Premier League games and just two points from their last seven games.
Only Wolverhampton Wanderers – who they meet in Molineux on Saturday – have scored fewer than their seven goals and only Leicester have conceded more than their 22 goals.
Despite her difficult start to the campaign, manager Steve Cooper signed a new five-year contract on 7 October as the club finished bottom after eight games.
There had been doubts about his future after a 4-0 defeat by Leicester City but it was decided he would remain in charge.
The appointment of sporting director Giraldi, who spent nine years at Watford, is seen as prestigious an attempt to run the club through their difficult return to the top flight.
