As the summer heat abates and hopefully the leaves begin to change color, USTA Florida welcomes the Fall 2023 Junior Team Tennis (JTT) season! This is one of the best opportunities in the entire state for youngsters to engage with tennis and teach them that the game is far more than an individual sport.
For new entrants and families unsure of what JTT is, it offers children ages 6-18 the opportunity to play on compatible teams of similar ages and skill levels. From beginner to advanced level, JTT is a great program for any child who wants to get into the sport or stay active. The green ball is available for divisions 12 and under and below, while the yellow ball is available for anyone competing in divisions 12 and under or higher.
The JTT season is one of the most exciting in the state as hundreds of junior tennis players take to the court in competitive but fun games. As September approaches many of these leagues are gearing up to launch, but don’t worry you can still sign your kids up to play at any of the 19 locations that JTT offers. USTA Florida offers leagues in the following areas:
USTA Florida Brevard County Youth Games Coordinator Brett Keener is excited about the new season as it is one of the county’s most successful young player skill development programs. “The local competition served as a launchpad for our players to gain the confidence to compete in higher-level events outside of our county,” he said. “Brevard High School players who have competed in the JTT over the years have had increasing success in their district, regional and state tournaments.”
The leagues are gearing up for launch and seats are filling up fast. Make sure to register as soon as possible to participate in the 2023 Fall JTT season.
For the top performing teams from each region, the Fall 2023 JTT State Championship will be held on December 9th and 10th at the Florida Tennis Center in Daytona Beach. In the spring, USTA Florida assembled more than 30 teams to compete for the spring state championship, and the talent on display was unreal.
Tennis is one of the fastest growing sports not only in Florida but worldwide, and JTT is one of the best programs the state has to offer. Tennis is far more than an individual sport and what better way to teach that to the future of tennis than in the JTT? Children will develop their game, compete in a competitive environment, learn about sportsmanship and have loads of fun along the way.
