Summary of high school sports: lacrosse, softball, flag football

Ryan Filippi scored six goals to lead Port Jefferson to an 8-5 victory over Whitman in nonleague boys lacrosse on Saturday. Owen Whiffen made 12 saves in Port Jefferson's opening game. Cade Delgado scored 13-on-15 faceoffs. Ryan Kaiser scored two goals for Whitman (0-2).

Floyd 11, Eastport-South Manor 7: Jayden Bonner scored three goals and two assists to lead Floyd in his non-league opener. JD Dolzeal, Mikey Maglione and Marc Pluschino each scored two goals. Luke Tiedman made 15 saves. Preston Vinch scored two goals and an assist for Eastport-South Manor.

Plainedge 14, Locust Valley 7: Owen Donnellan scored four goals and three assists for Plainedge (1-1) at Nassau C/D. Jack O'Connor had four goals. Phillip Terrell and Owen Hickey each had three goals and an assist for Locust Valley (0-1). Grayson Iannotti made seven saves.

FRIDAY GAMES

Bayport-Blue Point 8, Wantagh 7: Ryan Hannaford scored four goals and an assist to lead Bayport-Blue Point (2-0) in nonleague play. Connor Curran had a goal and an assist and Brady Smith made 11 saves. Dylan Martini, Luke Martini and Jake Martini each scored two goals for Wantagh (1-1).

Commack 8, Massapequa 7: Brandon Berozi had three goals and two assists for Commack (1-1) in nonleague. Vinny Pittito had three goals and an assist and James Pagano had a goal and an assist. Colin Caputo made eight saves. Jack Garguilo scored three goals and Michael Jannottee made 10 saves for Massapequa (0-2).

GIRL LACROSSE

Bellport 15, Riverhead 6: Cassidy Hanley and Brynn Johnsen each had four goals and an assist to lead Bellport (1-1) in nonleague play. Taylor LaGrega scored four goals and Andie Pedatella scored three. Ava Salinas made seven saves. Logan Pilon scored four goals and an assist for Riverhead (0-2).

Mattituck 10, Vestal 4: Gianna Calise had four goals and an assist and Page Kellershon had three goals and an assist for Mattituck in nonleague.

FRIDAY GAMES

Sayville 9, Floyd 4: Sophia Buffardi scored three goals and Sofia Cangelosi and Olivia Desimone each added two goals to lead Sayville (1-0) in nonleague play.

Smithtown East 12, Commack 10: Smithtown East (2-0) scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning at Suffolk II. Amelianna Santanello hit a three-run triple to cut Smithton East's deficit to one run and scored on an infield single from Casey Connelly to tie the game. Olivia Scannepieco gave Smithtown East the lead with a two-run single. The game was canceled after the fifth inning due to darkness.

West Islip 8, Centereach 2: Camryn Mariano hit a three-run home run in the first inning and had four RBIs to lead West Islip in its nonleague opener. Emily Bouros struck out 12 and had a two-RBI single in the second inning. Emma Taliercio-McNamara beat Nichole Olivieri with a one-two in the sixth round. Vanessa Suarez drove in a run for Centereach.

FLAG FOOTBALL

MacArthur 27, East Rockaway 7: Meghan Wetzel had a 42-yard rushing touchdown and a 10-yard receiving touchdown to lead MacArthur (2-0) in nonleague play. Sara Kealey threw a touchdown to Hailey Metzger and Sofia Maris added a rushing touchdown. Maris had a sack and made a tackle in the end zone for a safety. Gina Iannuzzi was intercepted. Hailey Metzger and Marcela Sanchez each had four flag pulls. Stephanie Lynch scored a 40-yard rushing touchdown for East Rockaway (1-1).

West Hempstead 7, Herricks 0: Katelin Martin completed a 25-yard fleaflicker to Jancy Cabrera to set up Cabrera's three-yard touchdown run as West Hempstead (2-0) defeated Herricks (0-2).
