WATSONVILLE, Calif. — Caeden Steele won his first sprint car feature by taking victory in the Taco Bravo Series at Ocean Speedway Friday night.

His black #121 Tarlton Motorsports sponsored car defeated Jake Andreotti and Bryce Eames. This podium trio could be the youngest within the youngest in speedway history.

Fourth went to another youngster, Joey Ancona, followed by veteran Craig Stidham.

Steele’s race got off to a rocky start when he jumped over the first green flag after starting off the outside pole. Race officials put Steele back a row while polesitter Chase Johnson would set the pace in the No. 28 Quinn Motorsports ahead of Eames. Johnson would hold the lead through a warning flag on lap five for a turn two spin from Brody Fuson.

Steele wasted little time getting to Johnson’s rear bumper as the two sliced and dice through lapped cars. But on lap 12 in very heavy traffic it was Steele who passed Johnson with a three wide pull. Johnson would retake the lead on lap 15, however, but a booking would force him to start again in second as he would have to return to the previous lap’s running order.

After the laps were up, it was an obvious two-car race between Johnson and Steele. Johnson dove inside at Turn 3 as the pair again had to deal with slower cars. He would take the lead only to lose it again when he was unlucky enough to crash into a slower car and spin in turn four, resulting in a caution.

Steele would inherit the lead, ripping the lip of the ¼-mile bullring to the checkering while Andreotti and Eames had their own fight.

Blake Bower won the Western Midget Racing Feature.
