Cougars air rifle team beats Cambridge, 1087-791 to remain undefeated
CHAMPLAIN — Northeastern Clinton’s mixed air rifle team continued their undefeated start to the season on Thursday, December 15, when they recorded a resounding 1087-791 victory over Cambridge. The win marked head coach Peter Visconti’s 90th win as a high school coach.
For the boys, David LePage would finish with the high score for the Cougars and shoot a 249. Holly Visconti continued her impressive season for the Cougar Girls as well, posting a 296 that would be the competition high.
After the win, the Cougars still sit first in the Adirondack Conference. Their next duel is on Wednesday January 4th when they host the Red Raiders of Massena. This competition was intended to be a refresher before the team competes in the Northern New York High School Championships with Beekmantown, Massena and Willsboro on Saturday, January 4th at the Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club.
Paul Smith’s college coach appointed to the 2023 University Games coaching staff
PAUL SMITHS – Matthew Dougherty, director of Nordic skiing at Paul Smith’s college, has been appointed to the US Biathlon coaching staff for the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games. The biathlon events begin on January 14 with the individual competition, followed by four more races over the course of the Games.
In addition to selecting Coach Dougherty for the Games, Paul Smith’s has seven athletes competing December 28-31 in Anchorage, Alaska for a chance to be named to the US biathlon team for the World University Games.
“It is an honor to be appointed to the World University Games coaching staff. I look forward to working with these athletes and helping them compete in the Games,” said Dougherty. “Having spent the last three years working with athletes on the trails at Mt. Vanhovenberg and on the track, I hope this experience gives the athletes a small advantage. The biathlon races
should be one of the marquee events during the games full of great athletes and challenging races. It will be a great experience to be in the thick of things.”
Clinton County Youth Bureau Announces Hoops Skills Clinic and Moonlight Snowshoe Events
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau, the City of Plattsburgh Recreational Department AND the Plattsburgh State men’s and women’s basketball teams will jointly host a basketball training session Wednesday, January 4, at Memorial Hall. Participants will be taught the basic skills of the sport by members of both the men’s and women’s teams.
The clinic is open to all young people in the district from the third grade upwards. Pre-registration is not required.
The Office and Saranac New Land Trust will also be co-hosting a Family Moonlight Snowshoe Tour on Friday 6th January from 6pm to 7.30pm. a campfire, hot cocoa, and s’mores are provided. Headlamps and flashlights are recommended.
