Physical activity in older adults promotes both mental and physical health. But can there also be risks? A study from the US West Coast has quantified the likelihood of sport-related sudden cardiac arrest in people aged 65 and older. Fortunately, the probability is low. Of 4,000 out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrests in people in this age group, less than 2% were exercise-related (JACC Clin Electrophysiol doi:10.1016/j.jacep.2022.10.033).
