Unsurprisingly, Yeoh was pleased with the news Squash will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
She joked: “I think people will think it was me… No, but I’ll take the credit!” No, it’s something that Malaysia in particular feels very strongly about. Tunku Imran Who was the President of the Squash Federation? And that they have always tried to qualify squash for the Olympics. I was so excited when they announced squash would be included in LA28.”
Yeoh still practices martial arts “because I still do action movies,” she admitted largely sticks to shadow boxing as “this is the easiest thing”.
She added: “I do karate, I do my kicks, I do all the basic things. Because every time you step on stage, there is no consistent form. If it was a historical film, you would see all the swords and other things moving around. And if it were a modern contemporary action movie, you would be sprinting through the streets and having street fights.
“When you make action films, it’s very important that you show respect for your job. I’m not a black belt in Taekwondo or Karate per se because we all learn them. I’ve mastered the basics so I can do my frontside back kicks, roundhouse kicks, all of that. But I don’t specialize in any particular form.
“When I watch Muay Thai, karate, taekwondo, judo or boxing, it’s exciting because I understand the discipline. I understand the work they have to go through before they can achieve that.”
