Spain 2-1 Albania: Dani Olmo scores to beat Albania on night of late drama

Dani Olmo’s fifth goal for Spain secured victory over Albania

Dani Olmo scored an injury-time winner for Spain as they clinched victory over Albania at the RCDE Stadium.

Substitute Myrto Uzuni thought he had given the visitors a tie after a chance goal with their only shot on target five minutes from time.

Ferran Torres opened the scoring for Spain after 75 minutes.

The hosts dominated possession and deservedly won the match record.

Albania may not have created many clear chances but they were dangerous on the counterattack while defending resolutely.

Southampton striker Broja led the line brilliantly. Just before half-time, he beat Pau Torres to the baseline and flashed the ball over the goal, but he narrowly dodged his teammates in the middle.

Pablo Sarabia came on just before kick-off and after the restart he shot over after Rodri forced a corner as the hosts tried to gain control.

It lasted 75 minutes but Spain made the breakthrough when Torres lifted the ball over Etrict Berisha who had just made a save to thwart it.

Uzuni pounced on a mistake by Brentford’s David Raya, making his debut for Spain, to restore the equalizer only for Olmo to deny Albania victory.
