The Department of Athletics is proud to announce that the The She's Got Game initiative has reached its ambitious fundraising goal of $2.5 million takes place in 2018.
At the annual “She's Got Game” gala on Saturday, February 24, the Department of Athletics said a total of $2,520,613 was raised to promote gender and women's equality in sports She has gamethe first and largest campaign of its kind in Canada.

Over the past six years, She's Got Game has supported 550 student-athletes with She's Got Game scholarships. Beyond fundraising, Athletics has implemented equal pay policy changes, supported the hiring of two new women's coaches, and now has a female representation on every single coaching staff for the university's women's teams.
As a result, She's Got Game has made great strides in achieving gender balance in sports at the U of G, advancing the goal of transforming our university through indigenization and equity, diversity and inclusion Our Time: University of Guelph Strategic Plan 2022-27. She's Got Game was a groundbreaking program for gender equality and has inspired the creation of similar campaigns at other universities and locally.
Achieving this monumental fundraising goal would not have been possible without the dedicated support of students, faculty, staff and alumni across the university. With 1,370 individual donors participating in the initiative and supporters establishing over 51 named scholarships for female student-athletes, this is a true testament to our community's commitment to creating equal opportunities for women in sports.
Whether you attended Gryphon Domino's Pizza Day, attended a She's Got Game basketball or hockey day, purchased a ticket to the She's Got Game gala, or donated directly to the initiative, you have been an essential one Part of supporting female student-athletes at the U of G.

“We cannot emphasize enough our gratitude to all of the donors who supported this initiative,” said Athletics Director Scott McRoberts. “The fact that so many have stepped forward and helped us reach this milestone in six years is a strong show of support for our women’s programs and student-athletes.”
The university was also an important supporter of this goal: Dr. Charlotte Yates committed $225,000 to the initiative over three years in 2018, when she was principal. This year, the current rector and vice president (academic) Dr. Gwen Chapman will contribute $50,000 for each of the next five years, for a total of $250,000.
“The hard work and generosity of so many made this incredible achievement possible,” said Dr. Charlotte Yates, President and Vice-Chancellor of the U of G. “By investing in our Gryphons, we contribute to our goals of transforming collegiate sports through equity and inclusion. Given our rich history of powerful women who have made a difference both on and off the field, we deeply appreciate the importance of this initiative.”
Although this goal has been achieved and great progress has been made, She's Got Game's journey is not yet over. The Department of Athletics will continue to build on the solid foundation of the initiative over the past six years to attract the best and brightest student-athletes and promote gender equity on our campus and beyond.
