Another Scottish Premiership weekend, another set of talking points.
Sunday’s game between Aberdeen and Rangers came to a dramatic end when James Tavernier equalized from the penalty spot, canceling out Bojan Miovski’s opener for the Dons. The penalty was awarded by VAR for a shirt pull by Stefan Gartenmann on Connor Goldson.
Aberdeen fans had different views…
Anon: Aberdeen’s coaching staff needs to look at the performance stats from the Rangers game e.g. E.g. ball possession was very low for a home team, forward passing was very poor, ball loss was high, second balls won were very low, etc. I’m also not sure if the three at the back works too, in Europe we were closed Home to three defenders covering a striker!
Mark: When will we learn?! If you hold back against any team they will create chances and we all knew the inevitable penalty was coming. Come on, Barry, wake up and pull yourself together. You don’t have to be a football genius to see what went wrong yesterday.
Niall: It was a game of two halves for the Dons. In the opening period the necessary competitive intensity against the Old Firm was duly rewarded with another first-class Miovski finish and the home side should have been two points ahead at half-time. The Dons then sat in the game for most of the second half and it was no surprise that they eventually gave in to a soft penalty.
Anon: Played very well in the first half but couldn’t keep up in the second half. If you lie too deep, the ball keeps coming towards us. Made her look good. Was at the game so didn’t see the replays of the incident. When it comes to pulling the jersey, it’s fair as long as there is consistency and the Old Firm is also punished.
John: Another goal lost in stoppage time, when will this team learn to finish a game if you don’t take off your shirts in the penalty area. Aberdeen should wrap Miovski in cotton wool and protect him between games because he is a class act.
Andy: Well, we have to be honest, the one point we won today was one point more than the Dons deserved. After a decent first half, the midfield started chasing shadows again. Hard to watch. What happened to the high press?

Tim: Our defense has no pace, which makes it impossible to recover from poor coverage. We need to bring in some younger, fresh legs in January.
Charlie: We need to stop worrying about what other teams are doing and focus on ourselves and let the manager decide. Let’s not forget that he inherited these players and I hope he addresses the issues and we become stronger.
Andy: Bad again. Every time we have the chance to close the gap, these players let the pressure sink in.
Dougie: Running onto the field, playing poorly, repeating…too many ineffective players. Same old weak defensive switch and nothing upfront. No strength or depth. I can only hope that Clement has a “January plan.”

James: I want to know why our team leader and captain is not taking the penalties. These missed penalties could cost us dearly at the end of the season.
Brian: This Motherwell team had something to prove after Celtic’s late win at Fir Park earlier in the season. Too many Celtic players simply assume they can easily get three points against a team that hasn’t won in their last nine games.
Tony: How can pundits name the Motherwell goalkeeper man of the match when the time wasted would be ridiculous? The fans are constantly missing out.
Sam: Gone are the days when teams feared Celtic’s pace. Brendan Rodgers has a small army of wingers but is simply unwilling to let them run at pace. The slow, slow build-up of play is predictable and you can tell that teams are slowly getting used to it. Change in tactics and pace of work. The motto “We never stop” becomes “We never started”.
Liam: Celtic could remain unbeaten but collect fewer points than last season. They seem a little out of ideas when teams get together and sit down. Maybe trying to play with two up front at home would offer something different.
Tony: Football under Brendan Rodgers is far too stuffy. No flair in the team, not for the first time this season. The teams just park the bus and we don’t know how to disperse them.
Hearts have made it three straight wins in the Premiership after beating St Johnstone…
Chris: A pretty great performance, but three points. Another strange lineup as the energy of Cammy Devlin and Calem Nieuwenhoff was missing in midfield. We urgently need the right mix of cunning and energy.
David: I’m happy with another win, but the shooting accuracy is terrible and if Lawrence Shankland doesn’t score, we don’t score. I desperately need a goal-scoring midfielder like Colin Cameron and the other so-called strikers who are starting to show their weight.
Val: Lucky to win. We played slowly and constantly passed back. No clear tactic or skill. The same old game week after week. We are so predictable. When the substitutes came on, the tempo increased a little. We were lucky to get all three points. Steven Naismith needs to do better for the team. Things need to change, and quickly. I can’t keep being lucky.
David: More sideways and backwards garbage served to supporters. Absolutely horrible to look at. Steven Naismith’s position needs serious consideration. Have you seen our December games?
Austin: Painful presentation with very low quality. Struggled to move the ball quickly enough to cause St Johnstone trouble. However, a win is a win and you can’t complain about three wins in a row.

Across the city, Hibernian are unbeaten in five league games, including four wins…
Fergus: I’m just really happy that we won. A great performance. However, I think Nick Montgomery should start Elie Youan.
Sandy: Well played, boys. All parts of the team played for each other. Sent off for Lewis Miller – he will learn from it. And when Dundee conceded a goal, they fought for victory. The same team under the last coach would have fallen apart. “The General” Montgomery has really begun to turn us around. It’s good to be a Hibee again.
Kenny: A good win, but defending is still a bit difficult. But overall a good performance and I can see a difference in the fitness of the players. We need to give the manager money for the January transfer window as we need reinforcements at the back and front, but we are on the right track. Well done.
George: Another good game ruined by questionable refereeing decisions. Lewis Miller’s second booking – really? Challenge against Josh Campbell in the Dundee box. Clear contact (not on the ball), no penalty – really? I could go on, but what’s the point? And what is the point of VAR? We were told that they review all major incidents, goals and penalties (given and not given). Really?
Fergis: I thought we played really well. A very gentle sending off changed the game and you feared the worst when Dundee scored, but credit to the boys – we held on and defended well. A little more work is needed to manage the game, especially towards the end. Fantastic three points and it’s starting to look like a top 6 team.
Hibs inflicted a narrow defeat on Dundee…
Doug: The players and management team are certainly wondering how they missed this game. All the talented players were available, some good attacking football was played, but on this day the whole was less than the sum of its parts.
Rod: It’s always disappointing when we lose but this Dundee team has raised my expectations and expect more wins and draws. We have a great squad but we also have to be ruthless and use players we won’t be using soon. Hopefully Max Anderson will be back soon. I’m also interested in who we sign in pre-contract and January signings.
Colin: Hibs fan here and I can honestly say I thought the man of the match was Lyle Cameron. What a game he had in midfield. Hibs cried for a player like him – if only he were ours. I firmly believe that Dundee have a player who can achieve bigger and better things than many other players would ever dream of. What potential he has.

John: I was really pleased to see the huge improvement in football. Ball at feet. Pass and move. It was good to watch. Must play with two people up front. Simon Murray needs Alex Samuel or Eamonn Brophy as a teammate. Yan Dhanda had a great game. I’m looking forward to Tuesday evening full of hope.
Angus: Good job. However, three points were necessary.
Campbell: I can only improve. Why hasn’t Eamonn Brophy been in the last few squads?

Jim: Marley Watkins is not a natural goalscorer. It is strange that Innes Cameron sustained two injuries during the warm-up process. Is he upset that he wasn’t chosen from the start? Why does Andrew Dallas only get the last five minutes of play every week? We won’t win away from home again this season – not good enough.
Anna: A well-deserved point, yes, but a poor performance in midfield and forward. When will Derek McInnes learn that a Killie attack isn’t working and the decision to substitute Andrew Dallas with three minutes left was pointless? He should have been on his way beforehand. As far as the 4-1-4-1 formation goes, this formation was an absolute joke.
