Roger Federer, Patrick Mahomes and Serena Williams delight but Tom Brady misses out

Several of the sport’s biggest stars thrilled at fashion’s biggest night as Roger Federer, Patrick Mahomes and Serena Williams led the athletes who traded the court and field for the famous steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The sports icons proved they can shine off the field as well as on it when they attended the Met Gala on Monday night.

Tennis legend Federer led the sports delegation as chairman of this year’s extravaganza.

Federer was one of the evening’s chairs, walking up the Met’s carpeted steps among the early arrivals a few minutes after the arrival of fellow co-chairman Dua Lipa.

The tennis star says attending the Met Gala makes sense for athletes because they’ve become a bigger part of the fashion world in recent years.

“I think athletes have become more and more fashionable,” Federer told the `. “Fortunately, we get to cover a lot more these days. It used to be the models, the good looking people, not the athletes.”

“Life has been so intertwined with sport and fashion in recent years, so it’s nice to come out on a red carpet of sorts,” he said before climbing the stairs.

Meanwhile, tennis icon Serena Williams announced she is expecting her second child with husband Alexis Ohanian while attending the event.

The 41-year-old tennis superstar showed off a prominent baby bump as she walked the red carpet with her husband at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

She welcomed her first child, a daughter named Alexis Olympia Jr., in 2017, though she’s passing Olympia.

Serena also confirmed the pregnancy with an Instagram post that showcased her elegant Gucci dress.

“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the three of us to the Met Gala,” she playfully captioned her post.

She had previously mentioned she wanted to have another child after announcing her retirement from tennis in August last year, which she appeared to have done well.

Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes also looked elegant on the red carpet with his wife Brittany.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback wore a black double-breasted suit and a high-necked white turtleneck, which he finished with a chunky silver chain and sunglasses.

Brittany looked glamorous as she matched her husband’s jewelry in a long white off the shoulder dress with a sequined neckline and sky high silver heels.

Mahomes was in good company with fellow NFL star Stefon Diggs also in attendance.

The Buffalo Bills wide receiver looked impeccable in a tailored tweed suit, sticking to Karl Lagerfeld’s theme: A Line of Beauty, in the late designer’s favorite fabric from Chanel.

However, a football star was noticeably missing.

NFL GOAT Tom Brady has been a regular at the event with his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen in the past, but the Brazilian supermodel appeared alone on Monday after the former couple split in October.

WNBA star Brittney Griner looked chic on the red carpet in New York City while attending the 2023 Met Gala with wife Cherelle.

Dressed by Calvin Klein, the 6-foot-9 center wore a longline taupe blazer with matching dress pants and a semi-sheer top in a similar hue underneath.

Her appearance at the event comes almost five months after she was released from a Russian sentence Colony on December 8th.

The Breaking In star, 50, wore an all red ensemble of a leather duster coat over a dress with a matching clutch bag.

The Omaha, Nebraska-born beauty wore her braided tresses parted down the middle and accessorized with gold necklaces and bracelets.

The NBA graduate, 41, wore a Prada ensemble of a long black coat over a sleeveless black leather vest.

Wade, who played for the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls during his career, completed his ensemble with black gloves, black pants and black boots.

His appearance at the event comes a day after he and Union suffered transphobic taunts while exiting Madison Square Garden.

The 41-year-old, who played for the Heat for 16 years, was at Madison Square Garden on Sunday to watch his former team defeat the hosts.

However, the retired three-time NBA championship winner, who is the father of 15-year-old transgender model Zaya, faced homophobic ridicule as he left the game.

In a clip provided to DailyMail.com by Adam Glyn, who filmed the incident, Wade can be seen following his wife Gabrielle to a car.

Some of the sports fans gathered outside the arena began booing the former shooter, with one yelling at Wade, alluding to Zaya: “You mutilated your son”.
