MEEKER, Okla. – Closing out the Micro Meltdown presented by MelMark Pipe and Supply at Red Dirt Raceway on Sunday featured a field of 88 competitors with Chelby Hinton, Corbin Rueschenberg and Jett Nunley finishing on the winning lane at the Dirt2Media National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division.
Initially second to New Mexico’s Ryder McCutcheon, who led from start to finish, the scales would light the No. 5, forcing the disqualification and propelling Corbin Rueschenberg to the $750 win. The second A-class triumph for the Arizona shoe marks his ninth overall journey to victory in NOW600 competition.
Followed by Elijah Gile, he too would come up slightly on the scales, placing Brecken Reese in second place. Kale Drake, who took the green from 15th, would end up fourth with Carson Bolden fifth.
Louisiana’s Chelby Hinton ended the weekend in stock non-wing action to take down the $1,000 grand prize. He rolled from seventh place to claim his 10th career wingless win in NOW600 competition.
The fourth different leader over the course of 25 laps, the first seven laps went to Kale Drake before he retired with mechanical problems. The number 25 handed the lead to Anton Hernandez and held pace on lap 15. Hernandez slipped to second place and tagged an infield tire that shot him into the infield. Trying to get back on track, Anton found Johnny Boland’s left tires. Walking around after the contact, the spinner caught two other riders in the process. Austin Saunders to the point two restarts would end with the Texan driver being sent to the rear to shift.
Back to green, the last nine turns were in Hinton’s hands. Attacking 17th JJ Loss made it into second place with Seth Shebester in third. Johnny Boland was fourth, with Brecken Reese finishing 12th–5th.
Jett Nunley made a wonderful comeback after a disastrous start in his Restricted A Feature and stormed through the field to claim the No. 17 career win. Clashing with Chase McDougal on the first lap, a total of four riders were caught, all of whom were able to return.
Taking the No. 33 to ninth on the grid, Nunley wasted little time clawing his way back up front. fourth of On the second lap, Jett fought his way past Garyn Howard for the point and went on to overtake the field by 2.690 seconds. Garyn would hold second while Cale Lagroon crossed third. Cash Lacombe led the first nine laps and slipped to fourth place while Carson Bolden took his second fifth place of the day.
