Like many Guardian readers, I thoroughly enjoyed and always look forward to reading Marina Hyde’s witty and snarky comments about the world around us. However, I was dismayed when I read in the final paragraph of her article about the new owner of Twitter (What better owner for Twitter than Elon Musk, master of the ill-advised tweet?, 26 ).
What has real tennis ever done to Marina to cause such an unprovoked attack? Maybe we should be told. It’s certainly not my experience of 30 years of involvement in real tennis at Cambridge, where the varsity club is (unusually) open to young and old from all walks of life, including both members and non-members of the varsity.
She brought city and dress together and offered a lot of fun, joy, movement and friendship.
I would welcome a visit from Mrs Hyde to the club so that as a journalist she is more familiar with the facts.
