ST. PETERSBURG – The Rays continued their push to add pitching depth, re-signing veteran right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.
Ramirez, 33, played for the Rays from 2015 to 2017 and returned in June after being released by Washington.
Ramirez served in a variety of roles as the Rays lost several pitchers to injuries. He posted a 1-0, 6.48 record in 15 games, striking out 30 in 33 1/3 innings but allowing 46 hits, including seven home runs.
Also Friday, outfielder Jake Mangum was announced as the player joining Vidal Brujan and Calvin Faucher's trade to Miami on Nov. 17 for minor league pitcher Andrew Lindsey and infielder Erick Lara.
The 27-year-old Mangum is a switch-hitter with some speed who can provide depth at Triple-A Durham, and he could also get a spring invite. He hit .298 with five home runs, 52 RBIs and a .771 OPS for Triple-A Jacksonville.
The Marlins acquired Mangum in December 2022 from the Mets, who took him as a 2019 fourth-round pick from Mississippi State.
