Police Volleyball Club will face Ugandan club Sport-S in the men’s final of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship, which ends on Sunday at BK Arena.

The police will be looking for revenge against the undefeated Sport-S players, who beat them 3-2 sets in the group stage.

Olivier Ntaggwa and his teammates appeared unstoppable in Saturday’s thrilling semifinal, topping APR in three straight sets (25-23, 25-21 and 25-20).

Supported by a large crowd dominated by “men in blue uniforms”, Police seized the opportunity and won the first set 25-23 against a stubborn APR.

After a 25-2 win in the second set, the Lawmen put themselves in pole position to storm into the final. APR fought on despite being two sets down. But left-wing attacker Merci Gisubizo spoiled their fighting spirit when he lost his nerve and attacked the club’s assistant coach, Matthew Rwanyonga, in protest against his instructions.

The pair got into a heated argument before Gisubizo headbutted his coach in the nose. The player was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct, while the coach was taken to the locker room for medical treatment with a nosebleed.

Police took advantage of the opponent’s controversial situation to win the third set 25-20, setting a final date with Sport-S defeating Fidele Nyirimana’s Kepler in a five-set thriller in another entertaining semi-final ( 8:25 p.m., 9:25 p.m.). , 22-25, 20-25 and 13-15).

The two teams needed a tiebreaker to settle after they were level at 2-2 sets. But it was the Ugandan team that had the last laugh after winning the fifth set 15-13.

Meanwhile, APR will face Kepler in the game for third place.

In the women’s category, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) will face Kenya’s Pipeline in the final, which will determine the Zone V champions.

RRA and Pipeline secured the final spot after defeating APR, KCCA and Police respectively in round-robin matches, while the match between the two finalists ended in Pipeline’s favour.

It will be another rematch with RRA looking to exact revenge on the Kenyans who defeated them in the preliminary round.

The Zone V Club Championship is considered one of the most prestigious volleyball tournaments in East Africa, attracting the best clubs in the region.
