HANFORD, Calif. — The Sprint Car Challenge Tour is locked and loaded to compete in the annual Peter Murphy Classic this Saturday, May 13 at Kings Speedway — powered by Keller Motors.

The Classic marks the first of two SCCT visits this season to the popular Hanford, California facility. Presented by Abreu Vineyards, the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour is excited to compete alongside the NARC 410 on the King of the Dirt Tracks on Saturday.

The SCCT event will be broadcast live on CaliDirt.tv, the subsidiary of SPEED SPORT.

The PMC is organized by retired racing driver Peter Murphy, who sustained injuries in a racing accident at Antioch Speedway on July 20, 2013. The accident eventually forced him to get out of his seat after suffering traumatic brain injury and ligament damage in his neck, shoulder and knee, along with a compressed T-3 vertebra.

The following year he arranged the first Peter Murphy Classic to rave reviews. This season will be the ninth edition of the event and it is shaping up to be one of the best yet. Unlike previous years, however, both nights will be held at Kings Speedway, with the NARC series starting on Friday.

“I really want this weekend to be another memorable weekend for all the fans and teams,” said Murphy, who is now promoter at Kings Speedway. “I still can’t thank everyone enough for everything they did after my accident. This way I can continue to give back and show how much I appreciate the sport we all love. We are excited to have SCCT as part of the Peter Murphy Classic on Saturday with NARC.”

Justin Sanders leads the standings after completing two races of the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Abreu Vineyards.

The Aromas racer conquered the SCCT opener back in March and finished second during the Tour portion of last year’s Peter Murphy Classic. Sanders will be back aboard the potent Dale Miller Septic/Thompson’s Dealerships No. 1 at Kings Speedway on Saturday. 4sa climb.

Shane Golobic, reigning SCCT Peter Murphy Classic winner, is 13 points behind Sanders in second place while Cole Macedo is third.
