Oregon high school coaches voted on where they think their respective sports teams are positioned for the fall season.
OSAAtoday compiled the results. The polls, including regional teams, are below, along with a quick look at last year’s results and some thoughts for the upcoming season.
Each poll includes the publication date and first place votes, where applicable, are listed in parentheses after school.
FOOTBALL
5A (Aug. 29): 1st Summit (11), 2nd Wilsonville (5), 3rd Thurston (1), 4th Silverton, 5th Canby (1), 6th West Albany, 7th Mountain View, 8th Dallas, 9th Bend, 10. South Albany
Others received significant votes: Central, Redmond, Lebanon
Summit defeated Wilsonville in last year’s title game. Thurston defeated West Albany 13-12 in a poor first-round match. South Albany advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Mountain View before losing at Bend.

The first meetings between the four ranked Mid-Willamette Conference teams will take place on September 22 when West Albany go to Dallas and South Albany host Silverton.

3A (30 Aug): 1st Cascade Christian (10), 2nd Banks (5), 3rd Vale (1), 4th Dayton, 5th Kennedy, 6th Santiam Christian, 7th South Umpqua, 8th Siuslaw, 9th Warrenton, 10th La Pine
Others received significant voices: Yamhill-Carlton, Coquille 15, Sisters 13
Cascade Christian is the reigning state champion and Kennedy is the runner-up. Santiam Christian meets fellow player Vale in the 2022 quarter-finals in Umatilla on Saturday. SC host Dayton on October 13.
2A (31 Aug): 1st Oakland (6), 2nd Heppner (3), 3rd Gold Beach, 4th Lowell (3), 5th Weston-McEwen/Griswold (1), 6th Regis, 7th Colton (1), 8th Monroe, 9th Squire, 10th Culver
Others receiving significant votes: Toledo
Monroe had a tough test with reigning state champion Oakland on Friday. (Results were not yet available at the time of printing.)

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
5A (Aug. 24): 1st Crater (9), 2nd Summit, 3rd Hood River Valley, 4th Wilsonville, 5th Crescent Valley, 6th South Albany, 7th Corvallis, 8th Springfield, 9th Canby, 10th (tie) Churchill and Caldera (1)
Others receiving significant votes: Ashland
Crater has won the last two state titles and 5 of 6. Crescent Valley lost district champion Kanoa Blake by graduation but is expected to remain content. The South Albany district champion is led by Zander Campbell and Matthew Resnik, who finished 16th and 19th respectively in 2022. Corvalli’s junior Cole Fiegener returns to the track after a strong spring season.
4A (Aug. 24): 1st (tie) The Dalles (5) and Crook County, 3rd Marshfield 41, 4th Philomath (1), 5th Marist Catholic (1), 6th Baker, 7th Cottage Grove, 8th (tie) Newport and Scappoose, 10. (tie) Henley and Klamath Union
Others receiving significant votes: Phoenix
Philomath lost the first three runners of his second-place national team in the finish, but still seems to have plenty of depth.
3A (Aug. 24): 1. Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa (4), 2. Siuslaw (1), 3. Valley Catholic, 4. Oregon Episcopal (1), 5. Burns/Crane, 6. Sisters, 7. Santiam Christian, 8. Banks, 9. Harrisburg, 10. Westside Christian
Others received significant votes: none
State champions Benjamin Bourne and Colin Longballa (seventh in the state last year) have graduated, but Santiam Christian has Diego Zambrano as an All-State returnee. Harrisburg will be looking to return to the state after finishing eighth last year.
2A/1A (24 Aug): 1st Union/Cove (3), 2nd Knappa (5), 3rd Heppner/Ione/Condon (1), 4th (tie) Bandon and St Stephen’s Academy, 6th Country Christian, 7th Stanfield/Echo, 8. Vernonia, 9. Western Christian, 10. Southwest Christian
Others received significant votes: Triangle Lake, East Linn Christian
East Linn Christian will be looking to get into the state after missing out last year. Surprisingly, the poll lacks Monroe, who finished ninth in 2022 (the show’s first trip since 1984) with five non-senior scorers. All return.
GIRL CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING
5A (Aug. 24): 1st Crater (3), 2nd Peak (3), 3rd Crescent Valley (2), 4th Corvallis, 5th Wilsonville, 6th Hood River Valley, 7th Dallas, 8th Churchill, 9th La Salle Prep, 10. Putnam
Others received significant voices: Ashland, Bend
Summit has won 14 consecutive team state titles, 11 in 5A and three in 6A. Crater was second in the 5A ranking last year.
Two-time individual state champion Emily Wisniewski and sixth-place Lillian Weiss will look to lead Crescent Valley to more team hardware after the Raiders were third last year. Kate Middleton (19th in 2022) and Corvallis will try to improve on their fourth place last year.
4A (Aug. 24): 1st La Grande (7), 2nd Philomath, 3rd Crook County, 4th Junction City (1), 5th (tie) Cottage Grove and Klamath Union, 7th Baker, 8th Stayton, 9th The Dalles, 10th .Henley
Others receiving significant votes: Cascade
Fifth-placed state-place finishers Adele Beckstead and Philomath will once again be in contention for the state title following their two consecutive runners-up finishes in the program. La Grande was the first last fall.
3A/2A/1A (24 Aug): 1. Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa (11), 2. Oregon Episcopal (2), 3. Siuslaw, 4. Union/Cove, 5. Burns, 6. Valley Catholic, 7. Bandon, 8. Heppner/Ione/Condon, 9th Sisters, 10th (tie) Vale, Santiam Christian and Banks

Santiam Christian will be looking to return to the state after finishing 14th last year. East Linn Christian’s Daisy Lalonde is aiming for a repeat singles title.
VOLLEYBALL
5A (Aug. 22): 1st Crescent Valley (11), 2nd Bend (1), 3rd Wilsonville, 4th (tie) West Albany (1) and Silverton, 6th La Salle Prep, 7th Crater, 8th Summit, 9th South Albany , 10. Ridgeview
Others received significant votes: Thurston, Lebanon
Dani Street, Bella Jacobson, Kamden Mitchell, Taelyn Bentley and Crescent Valley will again be tough to beat as they are on their way to a second straight state title. South Albany and West Albany also reached the national quarterfinals last year and took home trophies.
4A (Aug. 22): 1st Marshfield (10), 2nd Cascade (1), 3rd Crook County, 4th Mazama, 5th The Dalles, 6th Marist Catholic, 7th (tie) Tillamook and Baker, 9th Philomath, 10th Henley
Others received significant voices: North Bend, Sweet Home
Philomath and Sweet Home are both in the mix after losing in the state’s round of 16 last fall.
3A (22 Aug): 1. Sisters (8), 2. Valley Catholic (8), 3. Burns (2), 4. Creswell, 5. Santiam Christian, 6. Horizon Christian, 7. Pleasant Hill (2), 8. Cascade Christian, 9 . St. Mary’s, 10. Siuslaw
Others received significant votes: Scio, Corbett, Catlin Gabel, Westside Christian
Santiam Christian, one of the state’s most successful programs in the past two decades, ranked sixth in the state. Scio was just one win away from the quarterfinals.
2A (Aug. 22): 1st Salem Academy (10), 2nd Gaston, 3rd Monroe, 5th Grant Union, 5th Oakridge, 6th Stanfield (1), 7th Willamina, 8th Culver, 9th Weston-McEwen (1), 10th . Lowell
Others received significant voices: Portland Christian, Western Christian
Monroe was Salem Academy’s national runner-up last year and must replace all-tournament graduates Bella Gamache and Sarah Thompson.
BOYS SOCCER
5A (Aug. 22): 1st McKay (6), 2nd Summit (4), 3rd La Salle Prep (1), 4th Woodburn, 5th West Albany (1), 6th Corvallis, 7th Wilsonville, 8th Bend, 9th Crescent Valley, 10th Centenary
Others received significant votes: Parkrose, Ashland, South Albany, Ridgeview
West Albany will look to capitalize on the momentum of last year’s runners-up win against McKay for another strong season. Corvallis and Crescent Valley made the state playoffs while South Albany is hoping to bounce back from seventh place at the conference.
4A (Aug. 22): 1st Ontario (6), 2nd Stayton (3), 3rd (tie) Henley (1) and North Marion, 5th Philomath, 6th Hidden Valley, 7th Phoenix, 8th Madras, 9th Estacada. Newport/ Waldport
Others received significant votes: Cottage Grove, Scappoose, Molalla
Philomath, in a partnership with Eddyville Charter, will attempt to bounce back from an unexpectedly quick postseason exit as the Warriors suffered their only first-round loss of the season to eventual runners-up Phoenix. League opponents Stayton, North Marion and North Marion/Waldport will provide testing along the way.
GIRLS SOCCER
5A (Aug. 22): 1. Wilsonville (4), 2. Caldera (6), 3. Summit 59, 4. Crescent Valley, 5. Thurston, 6. La Salle Prep (1), 7. North Eugene/Triangle Lake, 8. Putnam, 9 . Woodburn, 10.Ashland
Others received significant votes: Silverton, Redmond/Culver, Corvallis
Crescent Valley will look to fill in the gaps left by All-State grads Nicole Huang and Abby Smith and return to the title game, where they lost to Wilsonville in 2022. Corvallis is a player in a highly competitive Mid-Willamette last year.
4A (Aug. 22): 1. Marist Catholic (10), 2. Gladstone (2), 3. Scappoose 88, 4. Hidden Valley (1), 5. North Marion, 6. Newport (1), 7. Philomath, 8. La Grande, 9 . North Bend, 10 Henley
Others received significant voices: Klamath Union, Seaside
Philomath made the state quarterfinals after finishing just behind Oregon West champion and semifinalist North Marion in league play. The first of two duels with the Huskies will take place in Aurora on September 28, two days after the host in Newport.
