SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will propose several changes to next year’s sport fishing regulations at the commission meeting Friday, Aug. 4 in Salem.
Most proposed changes are new fishing opportunities, administrative fixes, changes to simplify regulations, or changes to meet a conservation need.
The planned removal of four dams on the Klamath River in 2024 will allow anadromous fish to migrate to the upper Klamath Basin, requiring some Klamath River regulatory changes to protect salmon and steelhead.
Other proposals include: raising Kokanee catch limits in several Cascade Lakes, creating permanent thermal sanctuaries in the Umpqua River, and permanent regulations allowing harvesting of Chinook breeding sources in the Hood River and Snake River below Hells Canyon Dam.
