The Novato High baseball team put together an eight-run third inning and held Tam 11-8 on Thursday.
Leadoff hitter Evan Black had three hits, drove two and scored twice for the Hornets. Andy Gates drove in three runs and Jacob Rabb had two hits, two RBIs and two runs made.
The eight-run breakout gave Novato (10-5, 5-4 MCAL) a 9-1 lead, but Tam (9-8, 8-3) responded immediately with four runs late in the inning. Novato bet on two more in the fourth to take an 11-5 lead.
Colin Lam and Charlie Blau each had two hits for the Red-tailed Hawks.
- John Holtz led San Marin to a 5-2 win over Berean Christian with a grand slam on Thursday. Holtz’s explosion came at the end of the fifth and gave the Mustangs (10-7) a 5-0 lead. David Skaggs started on the mound and threw one-hit ball for five innings.
- Rex Solle homed, had two hits, drove in three carries and scored twice to lead Redwood to a 5-1 win over Foothill on Thursday. Theo Trono also had two hits and scored two runs for the Giants (13-2). Redwood starter Rory Minty went seven innings, allowing for five hits and a earned run while striking five.
- Jayden Lee tripled, drove a run and came on for a goal in the third inning as Marin Catholic lost 3-2 to Oak Ridge on Thursday. Starting pitcher Gavin Simurdiak went six innings and allowed five hits and three earned runs. MC (11-4) was limited to three hits.
college baseball
Lucas Schaefer hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to lead College of Marin to a 5-1 win over Laney on Thursday. Former Novato High star Jake Tirk pitched six innings to claim the win. Joey Taddie reached base four times with two hits and two walks. COM (15-15, 8-3 Bay Valley) has won 11 of their last 14 games to get back to .500 for the season.

Bryden Thielenhaus notched wins in the 200 Free and 100 Fly to propel the Novato boys to a 95-73 win over Redwood on Thursday. Nick Scruton secured wins in the 100 Free and 500 Free for the Giants.
Redwood took the win on the girls’ side, led by Mia Kelly with wins in the 200 free and 100 back. Lera Bondarenko won the diving. Emerson Wunderlach won both freestyle sprints for the Hornets.
Boys Volleyball
Archie Williams took a big step towards second place with a 27-25, 25-20, 25-16 win over Redwood on Thursday. Zach Wulff had 17 kills for the Peregrine Falcons (7-1 MCAL) and Alex Lucich had 26 assists. Middle blockers Charlie Butler and Kaleb Simmons played strong defense, according to head coach Greg Jones. Both teams started the game with a league defeat.
- Yassen Ashraf had 26 assists, two aces and a block as Tam overcame a slow start to go league unbeaten after a 25-22, 25-12, 25-13 win over Terra Linda. Will Hatch added 10 kills and three blocks for Tam (17-2, 9-0).

Charlie Farrell carded a 1-under-par 35 at Marin Country Club and beat Branson in a 184-274 win over Novato. Aria Saluja and Barry Liu both added 36 seconds for the Bulls (10-2).
- Truman Ashforth was crowned the medalist with 38 in the front nine at the Meadow Club as Marin Catholic improved 7-1 in league play after a 201-297 win over San Rafael.
boys tennis
All eyes were on the No. 1 singles match between Jack Millar and Henry Pratt as Marin Catholic and Archie Williams went head-to-head on Thursday. Millar pulled out the win to lead the Wildcats to a 4-3 win. MC also picked up singles wins from Qas Vidyarthi and David Shepherd in 3rd and 4th place in singles. Johan Jacobs won 2nd place in singles for the Peregrine Falcons.
- Ollie Weston and Lukas Berger picked up wins in their best two singles games to lead Redwood to a 6-1 win over Novato on Wednesday. Indie Stanic pulled out a hard-fought No. 3 singles match for Novato 4-6 7-5 10-6 against Jackson Adams.
- Witt Bulger clinched the win in the No. 1 singles as Tam was defeated 7-0 by San Marin on Thursday.
