Nike has teamed up with Football Victoria to announce the new Nike FC Accelerator program, a new initiative aimed at advancing gender equality in sport while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
Now, as the world watches as the best women footballers in Australia and New Zealand compete in the World Cup, Nike has launched its new program to help educate future players. The Nike FC Accelerator program, based primarily at the Matildas’ new home stadium, is a four-year commitment to empowering women athletes.
The focus is on promoting female leadership skills through funding certified coaching programs. In addition, it offers existing female trainers the opportunity to upgrade their license and in turn promote female trainers on Nike channels. The program builds on the success of a recent investment in coach education by Nike, which has already doubled the number of women C-license coaches in Victoria.
This month, 30 more trainers will graduate, bringing the number of accredited trainers to nearly 600 in the region. In addition, the Nike FC Accelerator program will give the Nike Football Community – which includes thousands of young women and girls across Victoria – access to the world-class facilities of the Home of Matilda and the dedicated Nike FC pitch.
Commenting on the launch of the Nike FC Accelerator program, Ashley Reade, Nike Pacific General Manager and Vice President, said, “We are committed to making meaningful investments in women’s sport, increasing our support for young athletes and building a better sport. “ The Nike FC Accelerator program is the newest way to advance the game and help the next generation get excited about football and sports.”
In addition, the new partnership extends Nike’s existing commitment to grassroots community initiatives by providing access to sport and sports for children across Australia, including Fitzroy Lions Soccer Club, Helping Hoops, the National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA) and the Dylan Alcott Foundation game allows.
In other sports news, Neymar has joined a new club.
