Jonathan Haggerty knows there is a fine line between ambition and greed, having had some ups and downs at the top throughout his career.
An adventurous and ambitious sportsman, the London native has lived up to his word most of the time. Though there were some setbacks during his tenure at ONE Championship, “The General” corrected his earlier mistakes and returned with a bang.
Most recently, the 26-year-old made an instant impression when he rose to bantamweight by defeating longtime king Nong-O Hama to secure the ONE World Muay Thai bantamweight title.
It wasn’t an easy feat considering the Thai icon’s history of steamrolling every opponent. Jonathan Haggerty is now looking forward to making the second part of his dream a reality at ONE Fight Night 15 on Friday October 6th.
Tonight, the Londoner will challenge fellow ONE World Champion Fabricio Andrade for the vacant bantamweight kickboxing belt at the prestigious Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ahead of the competition, The General said it’s been a dream of his for a long time to be world champion in Muay Thai and kickboxing at the same time.
He said to ONE Championship:
“That’s what I’ve said throughout my career, and it’s becoming a reality.”
As he fulfills his ambition, Jonathan Haggerty hopes to continue his winning streak if ONE Fight Night 15 fails. Also, with two-sport world champion status at stake, he’s likely to return better than ever to win the much-coveted award.
