Callum Wilson says he will take Newcastle’s unbeaten run via a rollercoaster of wins and losses, even if it means they end up with fewer points.
The Magpies equaled their club record of 17 games unbeaten with a draw at Bournemouth but have been winless in five of their last six games.
He told the Footballer’s Football Podcast that the morale boost from avoiding defeat is crucial to the atmosphere in a dressing room.
“You don’t play tennis with your emotions,” he said. “When you perform consistently, you know the results will come, rather than winning, then losing and having to keep bouncing back.
“If we continue our defensive record we know we’re going to score goals so we’ll start winning games. It’s all about converting those draws into wins but the Premier League is relentless.”
He also recognized that Newcastle’s success this season has meant teams approach games with them differently.
“Now they see a point against us as a good result,” he said. “Everyone camps, so it’s up to us to take on that challenge.
“We have a tricky game against Liverpool next, then Manchester United in the cup final and then Manchester City. It boosts morale when you’re unbeaten.”
