New Zealand all-rounder Amy Satterthwaite is retiring from international cricket

All-rounder Amy Satterthwaite has retired from international cricket after missing out on a pivotal deal with New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

Satterthwaite hit 4,639 runs in 145 one-day internationals.

She also scored 1,784 runs and won 26 wickets for New Zealand in 111 Twenty20 games.

“It’s been a tough couple of days after learning of NZC’s decision to take a new direction and sign some younger cricketers,” said Satterthwaite, 35.

“I’m disappointed not to be handed a contract and believe I had more to offer, but I respect NZC’s decision and wish the White Ferns all the best for an exciting cricket winter.”

Satterthwaite made her international debut in 2007 and captained her country in 2018 and 2019.

She holds the best bowling figures for New Zealand in T20s after beating England 6-17 in 2007 and hitting four consecutive ODI centuries in 2016-2017 – a feat equaled only by former Sri Lankan men’s player Kumar Sangakkara.

“Amy will be remembered as one of our finest cricketers,” said Bryan Stronach, New Zealand’s general manager of high performance cricket.

“Her record is outstanding and she can be really proud of what she has achieved.

“Essentially we are looking to the future and want to give some younger cricketers the opportunity to develop their skills amidst our high performance systems.”
