The NCAA announced that they are changing some rules on official visits for prospective recruits.
The Division I Council met this week and established new rules for official and unofficial visits for recruits beginning July 1. The number of official visits a recruit can make to different schools is now unlimited. This means they can make as many official visits as they want, but only one per school. The only circumstance in which a recruit could make two official visits to the same school is when there is a change of coach after the first official visit.
The council also stated that men’s basketball recruits may make two official visits as long as those visits do not occur in the same calendar year.
They also outlined rules for official visits for these recruits. Recruits are allowed to bring two family members and official visits cannot last longer than two days. The school also has permission to cover food, transportation, travel expenses and “reasonable entertainment”.
This ruling makes it much easier for schools to recruit and bring players onto campus. Recruits also have an easier time because they don’t have to be picky about which schools to attend.
It will be interesting to see how Pitt uses this to their advantage in their respective programs and how they all benefit from this change.
