National League games will take place from Monday when football restarts in England

National League games will take place from Monday, after football was banned as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

English Football League games are expected to be played during the week but the EFL is yet to make a statement.

The Premier League is also yet to make an announcement on games scheduled to take place between September 16-18.

Some games might be hampered by a lack of resources like the police, but issues are reviewed on a game-by-game basis.

A spokesman for the National Police Chiefs Council said: “UK Police are working closely with other organizations to ensure events are held safely and with appropriate security.

“Following the decisions of the Premier League and English Football League to cancel this weekend’s matches, we will be working with football clubs to ensure football matches can take place safely where possible, when balanced against the requirement to support national events and to deliver everyday police.

“This is a unique situation and we are working closely with everyone involved.”

Welsh football at all levels will do resume on Tuesday, However, the Football Association of Wales said instructions on matches to be played on the day of the funeral “will be provided in due course”.

In a statement earlier on Sunday, the National League – the fifth tier of English football – said: “The league can confirm games scheduled for the week beginning Monday 12 September, which will go ahead as scheduled.

“Clubs are asked to observe a minute’s silence for all matches up to the pre-match funeral and to wear black armbands as a mark of respect.”

The restart comes after the Football Association approved matches from Monday, when four FA Trophy games and two National League pyramid games will be played at Bradford Park Avenue and Chelmsford City.

The Queen, Britain’s longest reigning monarch, died on Thursday and a state funeral will be held on Monday September 19.

UEFA has moved the Rangers Champions League Home game against Napoli from Tuesday to Wednesday“due to the severe limitations on police resources and organizational issues related to the ongoing events surrounding the national mourning of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II”.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have confirmed their Champions League game at Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday “will go ahead as planned”.

Ten Premier League games were postponed over the weekend, including Monday’s game between Leeds United and Nottingham Forest.

Police games could be a factor in deciding whether to move the armed forces to London ahead of the Queen’s funeral.

Three games are currently planned in the capital. Tottenham play Leicester on Saturday night while Brentford take on Arsenal and Chelsea take on Liverpool at home on Sunday 18 September.

Manchester City’s Champions League home game against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday is scheduled to go ahead as planned, as is Manchester United’s Europa League game against FC Sheriff on Thursday in Moldova.
