Mickey Joseph Becomes Nebraska’s First Black Head Coach in Any Sport – NBC4 Washington

Mickey Joseph becomes Nebraska’s first black head coach in any sport, originally appearing on NBC Sports Chicago

Mickey Joseph made history at the University of Nebraska.

Joseph was appointed interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022 football season following the start of the programme Scott Frost On Sunday. The promotion not only makes him the first black coach in Nebraska football history, but also the first head coach of any sport at the varsity.

Like his predecessor, Joseph was a quarterback for the Cornhuskers, playing at Lincoln from 1988-1991. Joseph was a new addition to Frost’s staff this year, having coached at LSU from 2017-2021. He was hired as assistant head coach, holding the position for three games before being named interim head coach.

The University of Nebraska was founded in 1869 and the football team has been around since 1900. The school currently has 22 athletic teams: nine men and 13 women.

Nebraska started the season 1-2, dropping an insane win over Georgia Southern on Saturday. The team eventually went 16-31 under Frost.

Joseph will make his debut as head coach at home against No. 6 Oklahoma on Saturday, September 17.
