Janitor Stuart Kettlewell urges “caution” in assuming two victories as janitor cement his case for permanent Motherwell manager.
The 38-year-old tells ` Scotland he simply wants what is best for the club and the board must ensure whoever takes charge can sustain the improvement for the remaining 12 league games.
“I’m really not going to commit myself to this job,” said Kettlewell, who was hugged by chairman Jim McMahon after the 2-0 win over Heart of Midlothian. “If the club thinks I can help them, a conversation needs to be had.
“Really, we didn’t have that conversation. I wasn’t expecting this conversation.”
When asked how he turned the team around in his two games in charge, he adds: “There’s definitely no kettlewell magic – I can tell you that. It depends on the players.
“In the last two games my job is to see if I can spot some weaknesses in Hearts and St Mirren, my job to find out where they are strong and can hurt us. Once you release all that information, the players react to it on the pitch over 90 minutes.”
According to Kettlewell, the win over Hearts provided Motherwell with a great platform for “12 big games to come for the club”.
“They were almost perfect again,” he says, praising his players’ “mental strength” to weather the early pressure before securing victory.
