Minnesota drivers will soon be able to wear license plates featuring their favorite sports teams

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Minnesotans will soon be able to show pride in their favorite professional sports team on their car license plates.

Included in the transportation funding package lawmakers passed over the weekend was a provision allowing license plates for specialty sports teams.

Any Minnesota professional sports team — the Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Wild, Twins, and United FC — may design one, subject to approval by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Those wishing to use the special plates must pay an additional special plate fee and donate at least $30 per year to the team foundation. Sales of the records also benefit the teams’ foundations.
