Matt Godden: Coventry City striker out after appendectomy

Matt Godden is Coventry’s top scorer this season with 10 league goals from just 17 appearances, five of them on the bench

Coventry will be without Matt Godden this weekend after the striker had emergency appendectomy.

City has yet to confirm how long he will be out, but Godden posted on Twitter that he was hospitalized on Wednesday.

“On Tuesday afternoon I started to experience stomach cramps that became unbearable by the evening,” Godden said.

“Thanks to the advice of our medical team and the club doctor on Wednesday, I was admitted to Coventry Hospital.”

City, ninth in the Championship, host fellow play-off hopefuls Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

They are already without loanee Chelsea midfielder Ian Maatsen and full-back Fankaty Dabo – and this week another striker Tyler Walker was allowed loaned to Portsmouth.

There was no mention of Godden’s emergency surgery at Friday’s pre-game press conference.

“We kind of evened things out with Tyler Walker going to Portsmouth,” Coventry manager Mark Robins told ` CWR.

“Financially, I was able to make that work. Tyler needed to go out and play.

“But we have Martyn Waghorn coming back and we have Viktor Gyokeres and Matty Godden and then you have Fabio Tavares flying in the U23.

“Ultimately you didn’t want to do anything else, but you always want to do things that you can improve as a team or as a squad.”
