Matias Moroni started for Leicester Tigers in their Premiership final win over Saracens at Twickenham on Saturday
Newcastle Falcons have signed Argentina international Matias Moroni on a two-year deal from Premiership champions Leicester Tigers.
Moroni, 31, began final on Saturday for the Tigers as they claimed victory over the Saracens at Twickenham.
He was also named in Argentina’s squad for their three Test series against Scotland in July.
“I like the way Newcastle want to play the game and I feel like I can fit in there,” he said Falcons website.
Moroni joins Argentina teammates Matias Orlando and Mateo Carreras at Kingston Park and is the Falcons’ sixth signing of the summer.
Before joining Leicester, Moroni made 47 appearances for Jaguares in Super Rugby and also represented Argentina in Rugby Sevens at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
“Matias and I have known each other since we played together for Argentina U20 and he’s one of my best friends and a top player,” added Moroni.
“We know we can play well together because we’ve been doing it for many years, and of course I also know Mateo from our time with the Pumas.
“It’s always useful to have someone you trust who’s already at the club because they can tell you what it’s really like and from the conversations I’ve had with Matias I know Newcastle is a place is when I will be happy on and off the field.”
