Mark “Ensure Children’s Safety in Sports” Week

This week is Keeping Children Safe in Sport Week, organized and promoted by the NSPCC and its Child Protection in Sport Department.

Motorsport UK recognizes that it has both a moral and legal responsibility to protect and promote the welfare of all children. It strives to create a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected, valued and supported to participate to the best of their ability at all levels of sport.

Over the last 18 months, Motorsport UK’s Safety Department has developed a robust policy and procedure that all clubs must follow when organizing activities with children to ensure a safe and positive environment.

This includes ensuring every club has a Club Safeguarding Officer who receives an Enhanced DBS (or equivalent) check, ongoing learning support for all club members and a comprehensive process if problems arise.

“The safety of people in a racing or rally environment has long been a fundamental principle of motorsport. However, safety in the motorsport environment is about much more than just physical protection in the event of an accident,” explains Head of Safety at Motorsport UK, Amy McLeod. “We recognize that promoting a safe space for everyone, especially children, is vital to their enjoyment of sport and their development. There are many different ways to achieve this, but at its core it is about everyone involved in motorsport setting good standards and ensuring that failure to meet these standards is reported to Motorsport UK and responded to appropriately.”

Further information for clubs is available via the toolkit and information for parents can be found here.
