M-Sport star Breen tests Ford Lotus Cortina

Friday | September 16, 2022

Craig Breen will be taking a break from the hustle and bustle of WRC action to travel back in time and contest a touring car race at this weekend’s Goodwood Revival in England.

Just days after bringing home his M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 fifth overall at the EKO Acropolis Rally Greece, Breen will debut a historic Ford Lotus Cortina at the world-renowned race meeting.

“As most people know, I’m quite a fan of historical stuff and this is a great opportunity,” said the Irishman. “I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve heard a lot about the revival and the way they do everything, so I’m sure it’s going to be a good weekend.

“I’ve already done a few races. I did a lot of karting earlier in my career so it won’t be the first time I have cars alongside me and the Lotus Cortina has been quite an iconic car since its day.”

Breen’s start at Goodwood comes a week after a superb recovery drive in Round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship. The 32-year-old lost more than two minutes when he stopped to change a wheel during Friday’s stage one, but fought back to finish fifth.

After a tough summer, Breen felt the Lamia event offered something of a breakthrough.

“I’ve tried all kinds of approaches,” he said. “I’ve tried everything. I think the way forward is to relax and not think about it too much. After the puncture I did that.

“Paul [Nagle, co-driver] and I, we just drove the car and left everything else to itself. The car was perfect and to be honest I felt really positive when I left Greece.”
