Missy Bo Kearns seals Liverpool’s win as they return to WSL after a two-year absence
Liverpool have secured promotion to the Women’s Super League after lifting the league title with a win over second-placed Bristol City.
They took first place with two games remaining in front of a championship-record crowd of 5,752 at Ashton Gate.
Matt Beard’s side return to the top flight after being relegated in 2020.
The Reds needed just a draw to clinch the title but walked away with 4-2 wins, extending their unbeaten league streak to 19 games to take a 14-point lead.
Liverpool captain Niamh Fahey put the visitors ahead before Aggie Beever-Jones equalized a minute later.
But goals either side of the half from Jasmine Matthews and Katie Stengel propelled the Reds to a 3-1 lead.
Abi Harrison pulled back a goal with 20 minutes to go before Missy Bo Kearns sealed the win – and the title – with a fourth goal 11 minutes from time.
Liverpool’s only league defeat came on Matchday 1 against the London City Lionesses.
Beard, who guided Liverpool to back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, returned to the club last May after a six-year absence.
