The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 continues on Friday (on FOX and the FOX Sports App) with Japan taking on Sweden in the quarter-finals at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

Five favorites for the Golden Boot will compete in Friday’s game – Japan’s Hinata Miyazawa, Riko Ueki and Mina Tanaka, and Sweden’s Amanda Ilestedt and Fridolina Rolfö – while Japan goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita and Sweden goalkeeper Zećira Mušović are shortlisted for the this year’s Golden Glove.

Just seconds after Aoba Fujino’s free-kick somehow missed the net, Japan halved the deficit when Honoka Hayashi scored on the left side of the net.

Johanna Kaneryd got in a nice shot from the right, but Japanese goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita sent the ball elsewhere.

Sweden scored in the second half of the first half and had seven shots (three on target). Meanwhile, Japan didn’t record a single shot at half-time, but their defense was the trigger that kept the deficit at one.

Kosovare Asllani fired in a shot on the right side of the net for Sweden, but the shot was easily deflected by Japan goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita and then went off the post.
