Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Luton, while Everton defeated Crystal Palace 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.
Newcastle could have finished the day in fifth place but lost 2-0 at Bournemouth.

The Provincial Club Championships reached their quarter-finals in all four provinces this weekend.
On Saturday Trillick of Tyrone face Armagh’s Crossmaglen Rangers in the Ulster Senior Football Championship at Healy Park at 7.15pm.
Meanwhile, in the Connacht Senior Football Championship, Mayo’s Ballina Stephenites welcome London’s Fulham Irish to MacHale Park for a 6pm throw-in.

Cian Prendergast thought he had salvaged a draw with a last-ditch effort to make Edinburgh 22 Connacht 22 two minutes from time.
However, the former Munster player slipped in front of the post and gave the Scottish side their third win of the season.
The Lions struck late to claim a 24-23 victory over the Scarlets, while the Glasgow Warriors defeated the Ospreys with a 31-23 win.
