MONTPELIER – Lillian Crockett is a senior at Bear Lake High School. She is a member of the volleyball, basketball and track teams.
What she enjoys most about sports – especially team sports – is seeing the team grow together and evolve from a group of people who often just meet together into a cohesive unit with a single goal.
When asked if she had any intention of playing sports beyond high school, Crockett replied, “Probably not.”
“In high school, it was just a hobby,” she said.
As life after high school approaches, Crockett hasn’t set any specific goals. She knows the immediate plan will include either an LDS mission or college.
If she chooses to serve a mission for her church, Crockett said she would like to go to Italy.
When she transitions to college classes, she plans to attend BYU-Idaho. But even then, Crockett isn’t sure what path that path takes – because she’s not sure what she wants to study or what career she wants to pursue.
What she does know is that she loves being outside and riding horses.
“I wouldn’t mind doing a job that resembles physical activity – I like being outside – but I haven’t decided exactly what I want to do yet,” she said.
However, as she leaves her native Montpelier, she knows she will miss the family she sees weekly. Crockett explained that her father’s entire family calls Montpelier home, while her mother’s family lives just a short drive away in Wyoming.
Crockett qualified for state in the long jump last track and field season while also running in the sprint distances – 100 and 200 meters. However, she has not yet committed to participating in track and field as a senior; Maybe she’ll use this time to catch up with friends and family instead.
