Northbrook Sports Center is hosting an event for kids on February 25 called Try Hockey for Free.
Aimed at 4 to 9 year olds, it offers a fast paced explosion of sport from 2.40pm to 3.40pm at the Sports Centre, 1730 Pfingsten Road.
Coaches and volunteers provide instruction and games for the kids to play on the ice.
At the Sport Center, Try Hockey for Free is a joint venture between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, Northbrook Youth Hockey and the Northbrook Park District.
When USA Hockey debuted the program this fall, more than 7,000 kids were skating on 275 rinks nationwide.
Each player must wear a helmet, skates and winter gloves. The sports center has a limited number of skates and a particularly limited number of helmets that can be borrowed free of charge.
