Jimmy Roots: Exeter sign England striker Ethan's brother

Jimmy Roots, like his brother Ethan, is eligible to play for England through his father, despite growing up in New Zealand

Exeter are set to sign Ealing pro Jimmy Roots in the summer.

Roots played for North Harbor in the New Zealand National Provincial Championship before joining English Championship team Ealing in 2021.

“He seems like a guy with great potential and a passion for the game,” said Exeter coach Rob Baxter.

“He still has a lot to do, he’s a young, narrow-minded prop, but when I watch him play he likes to play rugby, he likes to face people in attack and defense.”

“Sometimes it can be as simple as that, people who just want to go out and play rugby and run around and get things done, that can often be your great quality, that can be your defining quality to become a good player.”

“At the end of the day you have to go on a training field and train hard and then you have to go on a rugby field and play hard and I think that’s exactly what Jimmy will do.”
