Delhi Capitals won by 20 runs

Rishabh Pant's first half-century since his return from a 14-month injury layoff helped Delhi Capitals win against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Wicketkeeper-batter Pant hit 51 off 32 balls and David Warner scored 52 off 35 as Delhi scored 191-5 in Visakhapatnam.

Mukesh Kumar then walked away with 3-21 while Chennai could only manage 171-6 in return.

After starting the season with back-to-back wins, defending champions Chennai suffered their first defeat while 2020 runners-up Delhi registered their first win.

Pant, who scored 18 and 28 in his first two IPL games this season, received a standing ovation after being dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana.

It was the 26-year-old's first IPL half-century since 2021. His career was cut short by the accident in which he suffered head, back and leg injuries that required surgery.

“[I] “Initially it took my time because I didn’t play much cricket, but I always believed that I could change the game,” Pant said.

Pathirana was the pick of Chennai's bowlers with 3-31. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for them with 45 off 30 balls and former captain MS Dhoni scored an unbeaten 37 off 16.

The Titans defeated the Sunrisers to get their second win

In the first match on Sunday, Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets to claim their second win of the season.

Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 45, David Miller scored an unbeaten 44 and captain Shubman Gill added 36 as Gujarat reached their target of 163 with five balls to spare in Ahmedabad.

Mohit Sharma earlier scored 3-25 as Hyderabad were restricted to 162-8 in their 20 overs.

“Winning two games at home is great, two more games and then we’re good to go,” Gill said.

“It’s a credit to the bowlers for restricting them. Everyone knows their roles in terms of batting or bowling. Miller has also gotten into shape.”

Hyderabad, the 2016 champions, have lost two of their first three games.
