DAVENPORT, Iowa – A light but persistent rain ended Friday night’s racing program at Davenport Speedway. Three races were completed and the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified Feature race had ten of the scheduled 20 laps completed.
The remainder of this race will be held next Friday, July 14th. The catch-up dates for the Koehler Electric Outlaw Street Stock main race and the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model race will be determined at a later date.
The Matzen Trucking IMCA SportMod feature was raced first and the fast track gave Kevin Goben the long awaited win at Davenport Speedway.
Goben took the lead on the second lap and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Kasey Williams started fourth and finished second. Logan Veloz started 11th and improved to third by the middle of the race but was unable to advance any further. Todd Dykema and Levi Heath completed the top five.
Justin Kay took his second Kunes Nissan IMCA Stock Car win of the season. To claim the win, Kay had to hold off an attacking David Brandies. Gage Neal took third place. Trouble on the last lap scattered the field and finished the race on caution. Matt Ryan was fourth and Dakota Simonsen was fifth.
Shawn McDermott dominated the main event of the QCjeeps.com Sports Compact on Friday night. Shawn led all 12 laps of the race, finishing nearly six seconds clear of second-place Roy Schmidt. Hunter Pieper, Jason Rhoads and Jack Fitzgibbon finished third through fifth respectively.
