ODESSA, Mo. — Monty Ferriera broke onto the United Rebel Sprint Series winning streak for the first time by leading the field in Friday night’s 20-lap event of the I-70 Motorsports Park 305 Sprint Car Nationals.
Ferriera shot into the lead from pole position on the opening lap from third starter Jeremy Huish and then fought off a serious challenge from Huish on a restart on lap 14 to take the $1,000 win aboard Precision Brands Investments/Wrenched No .45 to win sprint car.
“He (Huish) tried the same thing on both the first start and this late restart,” explained Ferriera. “I just knew I had to stop him.”
It was also the first win of the year for the California native, who now resides in Nebraska.
“I think we’ve been in the top five at every race this year, tonight it all finally came together,” commented Ferriera. “And I’ve been trying to win a United Rebel Sprint Series race for about five years, so it feels good to finally get that.”
While Ferriera was leading, Huish was chasing all the time. Even when lapped traffic came into play after eight laps, Ferriera kept Huish and Jacob Dye bye until after 14 laps, the only caution of the race came when Jay Russell lost power on the front straight.
Huish offered around the point on the restart at turns one and two but Ferriera was up to the task and retired to lead the rest of the way.
Huish settled for second place, while a late move past Stu Snyder gave Luke Cranston the show position after apparent third-place finisher Dye easily failed the scales.
Snyder was fourth, with Jon Freeman rounding out the top 5 while Ty Williams, Trevor Grossenbacher, Kenny Potter, Curtis Evans and Jack Potter completed the top 10.
After Dye set the fastest overall lap of 15.559 seconds in qualifying, Cranston, Cash Beeson and Ferriera each achieved 8-lap race wins.
Chad Frewaldt’s night ended early after a wild ride towards the end of the front stretch in hot laps. Frewaldt appeared to be in good health as he shared words with John Webster in the episode.
