DICK’S House of Sport offers training facilities for Southern Tier athletes

JOHNSON CITY, NY (WBNG) – The 140,000-square-foot DICK’S House of Sport aims to be more than just the largest Dick’s Sporting Goods in America, it also aims to be a place where athletes from the Binghamton area can improve their game.

With an entire floor dedicated to sports equipment, the House of Sports has a lot to offer. Among them the so-called “House of Cleats”, a rotunda whose walls are made of cleats for every sport: football, soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse and even track and field.

“We have some turf here for you to try on these turf shoes. Here you can try on the cleats and walk around a bit. You can kick a football in here if you want,” said Steven Franklin, chief executive of the House of Sport. “Another really great thing is that you can put them on and walk outside on our outdoor field and walk around in it before making a decision.”

In addition to the shoes, the House of Sport also offers an indoor batting cage where athletes can throw a few punches. But it’s more than just a baseball cage.

“It’s a multisport cage, so you can use it for softball, baseball, lacrosse, hockey and soccer,” Franklin said. “So that you can practice to improve your skills and techniques.”

The House of Sport also features a golf simulator, a putting green, and a state-of-the-art golf tracking system called GEARS, software that uses cameras to analyze a golfer’s swing as they swing, allowing the pros at the shop to tell you how you do it can improve.

“They can come here, take golf lessons, get fit for a new driver and some irons, they can come down to the putting green to try some new putters,” said PGA pro golfer Ryan Evans. “It’s just a great place to develop your game and have fun.”

With all of these options, DICK’S hopes to become a vital resource for all Southern Tier athletes.
