CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) – At the Dunn-Richmond Center in Carbondale, a media craftsman’s tools sit on the metal shelves, waiting to turn ideas into productions.
Creatordale is a group that started in April and has about 50 people signed up, according to founder Nathan Colombo.
“We see a great opportunity to attract more talent to our projects,” said Colombo.
But while everyone has their own unique idea, according to filmmaker Charlie Queen, it takes a team to make it all happen.
“Film needs much more than just a camera. He has a marketing side,” Queen said. “You have to do podcasts. You have to create posters. A network of artists supporting each other. We should all be on the same team.”
Queen is helping film a podcast series called Poker with Pyzza. Carbondale resident and professional poker player Ryne Teston started the series after a lucky date.
Teston won $25,000 in a poker tournament in St. Louis after entering the tournament with around $400. His win caught the attention of a production team who now sponsor his series.
“You need a conglomeration of editors, film professionals and musicians, you need a team,” Teston said. “There is no true 100% media DIY. That does not exist.”
Teston and his team will be in Las Vegas throughout June to film the series. Colombo believes that for Colombo, Creatordale is the glue of an emerging media landscape.
“These projects that we’re all working on show how we can all work independently and collectively toward the realization of a larger creative vision,” said Colombo.
