BARCELONA, Spain – Max Verstappen’s winning streak continued on Sunday afternoon at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the two-time world champion put on a dominant performance at the Spanish Grand Prix.
It was Verstappen’s third straight Formula 1 win and his fifth in seven races this season.
“It’s a good time, but we have to keep working and try to do better,” said Verstappen. “I’m happy with the car and I think the last few weekends have definitely been a lot more positive for me. This is a weekend that I think has gone really well, but we also know that it might not be the case at some other tracks.
“We have a lot of races to go where we need to do really well again to try to win the race.”
From pole position, the Red Bull driver led from start to finish and extended his lead in the overall standings.
At the checkered flag after 66 laps, Verstappen was 24.090 seconds ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who finished second in his Mercedes and thus achieved his best result of the season.

Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate George Russell was third.
“After today I’m so happy. I didn’t expect us to come here this weekend and finish second,” admitted Hamilton. “I was able to keep everything under control today. We couldn’t keep up with Max’s (Verstappen) Red Bulls because they play in a different league, but it’s still a really positive result. George’s advance from P12 to P3 is also spectacular. I am incredibly grateful to the entire team, everyone at the factory and the LH team around the world, who always stand by my side.
“We’re learning more and more about the car,” he continued. “I hope that the car continues to be like it was this weekend. I hope things are going well for us from here. Certainly there will be some tracks where the car is not quite in the right window but hopefully the next few races should suit us.”
Sergio Perez, who drove the second Red Bull start, fought his way up from 11th on the grid to fourth place
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finished fifth ahead of the Aston Martin machines of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso
Verstappen leads Perez in the overall standings by 53 points.
Verstappen’s 40th career win means he sits one place behind Ayrton Senna in fifth on the all-time list.
